Anthropology Club trip to San Diego

Last weekend our Anthropology Club took a trip to UC San Diego to attend the CARTA symposium on Implications of Anthropogeny for Medicine and Health. The students were accompanied by Professors Brewster and Fouts. The topics ranged from heart health in hunter-gatherers to the variability of breast milk. The following day we visited the Museum of Man. This incredible museum explores the connections between different human experiences. The exhibits included many topics discussed in SMC Anthropology classes including human evolution and genetics, Mayan and Egyptian cultures, race and cannibalism. The latter temporary exhibit was very tastefully done and did a great job exposing some of the myths people associate with cannibalism. The trip was an enormous success and we are already planning our next symposium for the spring.
